The Sega Festival is here!

Everything ready to celebrate the season

In the Delta we have two very important dates in honor of the cultivation of rice: the party of the planted and the sega party. A few months ago it took place, like every year during the month of June, the first of them, the planted. As its name suggests, it is a festival that recreates how the ancestors planted rice in the elds of the Ebro Delta.

Now that the summer has passed ... La Sega! Although it is carried out in several locations in the Delta, in Amposta the 7 October. Do you want to know what happens during these holidays and why you can miss them? Keep reading!

What to see in La Sega?

In Amposta the party is held around the L’Estany Casa de Fusta restaurant, next to a lagoon that receives the name of l’Encanyissada.

Same as in the planted, during the Sega Festival, the traditional way in which the rice harvesting work was carried out is recreated. Tools such as the sickle are used and it is shown how the sheaves were collected and transported (cereal bunches) in horse-drawn carts. Then they were taken to the threshing oor to thresh them and extract the grains of rice.

Meanwhile, there is live music and the inhabitants, dressed in the typical costumes of the area, they dance their popular couplets and jotas. There's even a jack singing contest!

What to eat in La Sega?

How could it be otherwise, at a party in honor of rice, good gastronomy could not be missing. In Amposta, there is a grouping formed by 17 restaurants in the area, known as L’Essència de l’arròs Amposta - Delta de l’Ebre.

This group organizes delicious gastronomic days during the La Plantada and La Sega festivities. You will be able to savor very precious delicacies of the area, like eel or nettle dishes, and of course, some good rice dishes cooked with our star product, the Extra of Montsià.
