World Water Week: The Value of Water in the Ebro Delta and in Every Grain of Arroz Montsià

Every year, at the end of August, World Water Week brings together experts, institutions, and organizations to reflect on one of our planet's most essential and fragile resources: water.
This year, the theme is "Water for Climate Action," a reminder that water is one of the most powerful tools for addressing the challenges of climate change.

At Arroz Montsià, we understand this message very directly: our history, our work, and our product depend on a unique ecosystem, the Ebro Delta Natural Park, where water is the thread that connects everything. Without it, neither our rice nor the biodiversity that makes this place a natural treasure would exist.

Water as a Pillar of the Ebro Delta

Rice farming is one of the most closely linked to the water cycle. In the Ebro Delta, irrigation is planned according to the seasons and is fed by the waters of the Ebro River, creating the necessary conditions for rice to grow while preserving a habitat rich in life.

During the growing season, flooded fields provide refuge for migratory birds and other aquatic species, contributing to the conservation of an ecosystem of high environmental value.
But this balance is delicate. Climate change is altering rainfall patterns, increasing temperatures, and reducing river flows.

Water for Climate Action: From Speech to Practice

World Water Week 2025 calls for a shift from awareness to action, and in the Ebro Delta, this translates into efficient and sustainable water management.
At Arroz Montsià, this commitment is reflected in responsible agricultural practices that optimize the use of water resources and reduce environmental impact, thus ensuring the continuity of agricultural activity and the health of the ecosystem.

Thanks to the varietal purity and traceability of all our rice, we know exactly how each variety responds to the Delta's conditions, allowing us to optimize irrigation and care for this valuable resource, while ensuring a product of the highest quality and respect for the region.

A resource that connects everything

Water is not only essential for rice cultivation; it also sustains the local economy, keeps agricultural traditions alive, and preserves the cultural identity of the Ebro Delta.
Every drop that reaches our fields is the result of coordinated management between farmers, institutions, and communities, and its proper management is key to ensuring we can continue enjoying authentic rice and a unique landscape.

In this sense, the motto of World Water Week, "Water for Climate Action," is very close to the values of Arroz Montsià, since protecting the water of the Ebro Delta means protecting the future from the adversities of climate change.

Caring for water, caring for the future

Water is much more than a natural resource: it is the engine that gives life to nature, sustains communities, and, in our case, gives flavor to every dish we share.
At Arroz Montsià, we know that the value of water is best understood when experienced up close, seeing how it transforms the land and how each season brings the promise of a new harvest.

That's why, during this World Water Week, we reaffirm our commitment to responsible and sustainable management, so that the Ebro Delta continues to be an example of how action against climate change begins at home, in every field, in every drop.

Because caring for water today means ensuring that, tomorrow, the Ebro Delta continues to give us life, biodiversity... and the best rice.
