WORLD HERITAGE RICE

Did you know that half of the world's population consumes on average more than 55 kg of rice?

Rice is the most important food source on the planet. To give us an idea of its scope, almost the entire Asian continent accounts for more than 95% of production, making it a staple in the diet of more than half the world's population.

It is also the second most important food in the world after wheat. It is an essential food that provides sustenance for many families and has excellent health benefits thanks to the variety of minerals and vitamins that make up its molecular structure.
Its consumption is primordial in the human diet, probably the most prized for its balanced nutritional properties.
Its origin dates back to Asia, more than ten thousand years ago, specifically, its cultivation began in China. From the year 8000 B.C. rice cultivation reached our peninsula with the Arabs and spread throughout Europe.

The versatility of the cereal

Rice is a very versatile cereal that adapts easily to a wide range of climates, waters and soils. These optimal characteristics make rice a recurrent food in most of the world's gastronomic traditions.
Although it does not require a great deal of cultivation, the different soil characteristics make rice cultivation a laborious process. In addition, each hectare of plantation offers a very high yield, as well as easy maintenance and transportation.

Nutritional value of rice

Nutritionally speaking, rice is a very rich food in carbohydrates and provides most of its energy content. These complex carbohydrates are digested very slowly, keeping sugar levels constant. It also provides very little fat (0.2%) and contains no cholesterol. In terms of mineral content, the most notable is the presence of magnesium, phosphorus and potassium.
It is also interesting in its proportion of B vitamins, especially vitamins B1, B2, B6, as well as folic acid.

What are the properties of rice?

-High fibre content: source of vitamin B, essential for the proper functioning of our body.
-Low in fat: it is a cereal, therefore, the levels of fat are minimal.
-High levels of water: it absorbs a large amount of water during cooking.

Our rice dishes

The Delta is a magical place, it is the rice-growing area par excellence in Catalonia with more than 22 thousand hectares dedicated to its cultivation.

It is a privileged environment with humidity, fertility and rich conditions, ideal for rice cultivation. Annually to our cooperative of the Càmara Arrocera del Montsià, we produce an average of 40 thousand tons of rice in several specialities such as bomba, extra round, long, integral, etc.

DOP Ebro Delta

The climatic characteristics of the Ebro Delta make it a privileged area for the cultivation of rice with its own certification, DOP Delta del Ebro. A recognition that implies working with an autochthonous monovarietal seed and Extra category rice and that the entire production chain, cultivation, processing and packaging, has been carried out in the Ebro Delta.
