Practical uses of rice at home

Everyone knows that rice is very versatile when it comes to cooking it.
But not everyone knows the many uses we can give it!

Here we show you some tricks to use this rich food in everyday situations at home.

1. Perfect for cleaning the coffee grinder. If you are one of those who enjoy a good ground bean coffee, this trick can be very useful. Pour whole grains of rice into the grinder and add enough rice to cover the leaves. Start the mill: the rice will absorb all the oils and flavours that have remained inside the container.

2. Keep salt free of moisture. Especially in summer. And if you live in a hot and humid climate, even more so, since the humidity can cause the salt to turn yellow and clog the small holes in the salt shaker and it cannot come out. To avoid this, simply add a few grains of rice to the salt shaker.

3. Use rice water as a facial mask. You don't have to spend a lot of money to keep your skin flawless: you can stock up on the water from the rice you're cooking. Rice is very rich in vitamin C and omega-6, two active ingredients that favour the production of elastin in the skin.

4. Create your own heat bag. If you are freezing at home, to make a heat bag with rice you will only need scissors, a package of rice, a piece of clothing or an old sock, a needle and sewing thread. When you have made the bag, put the rice, put it in the microwave and you will be able to keep your hands and feet warm.

5. It can help you ripen the fruit. If you buy slightly green fruit and want it to ripen more quickly, simply place it in the basket with rice.

6. Dry electronic devices. Rice has always been present as an emergency remedy when a device has accidentally fallen into the water. You just have to submerge your device in a bowl full of rice and leave it for 24/48 hours. If all goes well, thanks to its powerful effectiveness against humidity, the device will work like new again.

7. Perfect for checking oil temperature. If you have to fry some food and want to know if the oil is at the right temperature, just add a grain of uncooked rice. If it starts to fry, it is a sign that the oil is at the right temperature.

8. Ideal for fertilizing plants. You can use the leftover water from boiled rice as fertilizer for plants. It is an excellent way to give them an extra supply of nutrients thanks to the amino acids, calcium, phosphorus, iron, zinc and potassium it contains. All of them, are essential elements for its development.
