To say that Arroz Montsià is the best rice in Catalonia is a big word, but not without foundation, and if we say something like that it is because, without a doubt, there is an undeniable track record behind such a title.

And the fact is that at Arroz Montsià we make rice with characteristics that make it unique not only within the Catalan borders, but also in the face of the rest of the world. Its cultivation process, its place of origin and its incomparable flavour make it a reference for making all kinds of dishes.

At Arroz Montsià we want to explain the characteristics of our rice, how we understand that a brand dedicated to this sector should work and unravel the secrets that have made it a reference product.

Arroz Montsià, a product with Protected Designation of Origin

The best rice brand in Catalonia was born in 1927 through the Càmara Arrocera del Montsià; and is currently made up of 3,000 members united in an agricultural cooperative with the aim of creating different types of rice under the banner of the Arroz Montsià brand. The setting was the Ebro Delta, at the mouth where the largest river in our country meets the Mediterranean. This, together with the effort and intention to preserve the diversity and rich heritage of the later declared Ebro Delta natural park, made Arroz Montsià able to become what we are today.

The Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) seal of Arroz Montsià on some of our rice varieties is born from this circumstance, but not only because of that, it is also due to the exhaustive and exclusive controls that configure us as a product of extra quality; to the guarantee that the elaboration, production and packaging process is entirely carried out in the Delta's cultivation areas; to the good performance of our farmers to give the product a special flavour and the native touch that only the workers of the area can provide; and, of course, the cooperative strictly follows controlled agriculture techniques to protect the environment in the area.

These last two characteristics are what make Arroz Montsià a local and sustainable brand that ensures the care and attention of its customers and workers, as well as caring about the natural environment and the production of an environmentally friendly product that can be sustained in the future.

The very special natural setting that the Ebro Delta offers means that we have a responsibility to our environment and, at the same time, to the workers, customers and collaborators who are part of our large family. The rice that we grow with so much effort and care would not be so special if it were not this way!

First of all, this large family we are talking about is made up of the best local professionals: nutritionists, farmers, transporters, managers... All of them united with the firm purpose of bringing the best rice to tables around the world. An example of this is the authenticity and quality of our rice varieties, such as Olesa, in which each grain of rice has the names and surnames of each of our cooperative members.

And, secondly, there is the trust of our clients to whom we provide an exemplary service based on proximity, attention and the ease of being able to contact us with any question. In this way, we are proud to be able to say that our business model is based on local trade, regardless of the kilometers that separate us from our clients.

On the other hand, at Arroz Montsià we are committed to sustainable production through various pillars and work methodologies that care for the protected area of ​​the Ebro Delta and, at the same time, contribute to the preservation of the environment.

Obtaining the European Award Cooperative for Innovation, thanks to the creation of Oryzite, a substitute material for plastic made from the husk of the rice seed, is proof of our concern for the environment. This initiative, with more than 10 years of R&D development, is a clear example of the circular and sustainable economy that we are committed to and that is not only applicable to our sector, but to countless areas with which we intend to contribute to improving the world. It is a way of giving back to the natural landscape of the Ebro Delta what it does for us every day.

In addition, we use controlled agriculture techniques to guarantee the preservation of both the space and the health of our consumers, we use 100% recyclable packaging for our product, we are affiliated with the PEFC forestry paper certification that guarantees that it is made with sustainably managed forests and we are concerned about reducing the amount of CO2.
