Gluten-free diet for celiac children

Intolerances and allergies in children are increasingly present. One of the most common intolerances in children is gluten and although it seems complicated, do not despair when preparing the children's menu. 

Celiac children children suffer an immune reaction to the ingestion of gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, oats and barley. When a celiac child eat foods with gluten, their immune system damages their gut and if it is not treated with a proper diet, can lead to malnutrition.

How to get a balanced diet

Despite the fact that every time there are more and more gluten-free products, it is important to remove certain foods from the diet of a celiac like bread, wheat, oat, barley, rye, our, pasta, cookies and cakes. 

Although it seems that there is no more food, actually there is a huge amount of products that celiacs can ingest normally. Rice, meat, fish and shellfish, eggs, dairy products, legumes, fruits and vegetables, oil, wine vinegar, sugar and honey are just some examples.

Once we are clear about the foods they can eat, we must be aware that the process of switching to a gluten-free diet requires a period of adaptation. That is why we must teach children what products they can take or not and why.

Ideas for celiac diets for children

For breakfast they can have:
  • Yoghurt with fruit and nuts
  • Gluten-free cereals with fruits such as banana or apple
  • Smoothies made with yoghurt, milk and fruit
  • Orange juice with gluten-free cookies

For lunch or dinner they can have:
  • Baked fish rice
  • Tomato and lettuce salad with beef fillet
  • Meatballs with pumpkin cream
  • Lentils with chicken Stuffed gluten-free pasta
  • Cheese and tuna omelette

With these little tricks, we are sure that children will be able to enjoy a healthy diet balanced diet.
