Last Friday 3 of May was held the sixth edition of the "Rice Contest for Future Chefs" at the Girona Hotel and Tourism School, promoted by Montsià rice.
The objective of the contest is to publicize a product so characteristic of the Delta de l’Ebre and, of a very high quality, to the
12 selected students from the hospitality centers with which Montsià rice collaborates.
The winners of the contest are
Joan Michavila Casanova and Dànae Castell Cervera, students from the Tortosa School (E.H. Joaquim Bau). Both applicants
got € 1,700 as a scholarship. Both in the traditional dish category and in the creative dish category.
The challenge was to
give a personal touch to the recipe determined by the jury. The dish they have had to face this year has been a "Rice for children". This recipe
consists of cooking rice with different parts of the chicken (neck, crest, wingtips and gizzards).
To prepare the dish, the participants
could not maintain any contact with each other or with the accompanying teachers.
The test was carried out in the time that the jury indicated before starting the competition. Once the applicants passed the recipe, they presented their dishes to the jury in order of participation.
